Muscatatuck River cleanup planned

VERNON — The Friends of Muscatatuck River Society are hosting the 18th annual Spring River Cleanup in memory of Kevin Jayne on April 27.

Volunteers will canoe a section of the river or walk along the bank while collecting trash to benefit the environment and the community.

All small children should be accompanied by a parent and everyone is asked to dress in outdoor work clothing appropriate for weather conditions.

Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Vernon Commons, off Jackson Street. A brief safety instruction session, and distribution of safety equipment will be held and assignments will be made for locations for the cleanup. Those using canoes must provide their own.

The day will conclude at noon at the North Vernon City Park Shelter House 1 where lunch will be provided, donated by local businesses.
