Deputies arrest two Ohio residents after traffic stop

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested two people after a traffic stop on State Road 46.

Deputy Andrew Whipker made the stop at 11:09 a.m. Saturday and after the vehicle pulled into a residence, the driver, Elvis Ellis, 37, Powell Ohio, began walking away, deputies said.

Whipker ordered Ellis to stop and he complied while throwing some items on to the ground, deputies said. Ellis was taken into custody while passengers Samantha Nelson, 34, North Logan, Ohio, and Ellis’ juvenile daughter were told to remain in the vehicle, deputies said.

After other deputies arrived to assist, a clear glass pipe with burnt residue was located on the ground in the area where Ellis had thrown items, deputies said. A film canister containing a rock-like substance, syringes and a clear, plastic pipe with burned residue were also located inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Ellis was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, deputies said. He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $65,000 bond, jail officials said.
