Hundreds of Bull Dogs from near and far — 275 to be exact — traveled to Mill Race Center on Saturday to celebrate a milestone anniversary of Columbus High School and Columbus North High School.
Graduates, retired faculty and staff and current Bull Dogs commemorated the school’s rich 150-year history at a sold-out gala reunion — the final installment of a nine-month celebration hosted by the Bull Dog Alumni Association.
The night featured memorabilia from the 150 years, a performance by alumni and current members of the Debuteens and Music Men show choirs, a surprise appearance by an Elvis impersonator also known as Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Superintendent Jim Roberts and a mix and mingle time for classmates and retirees to catch up.

The alumni association also created a book to celebrate the school’s history. Divided into chapters that focus on different subjects including academics, athletics and performing arts, “The Story of CHS/CNHS” hits the highlights of the high school’s 150-year legacy.
Larry Ruble, a 1968 North graduate, said having read the book himself, he believes there’s enough coverage of all areas to generate interest.
“I think it’s going to be a springboard toward gathering a more comprehensive history that we want,” Ruble said. “It’s going to be a great help in trying to start getting input from other people because that’s where the real history is. That’s where the exciting history is — in peoples’ memories.”
Copies of the book are available for $30 at the Columbus North Bookstore and at Viewpoint Books, 548 Washington St. They are also available for purchase online for $35, including shipping and handling.
