Letter: Think of country, not party, when picking among candidates

From: Greg Dinkins

Columbus

My name is Greg Dinkins. I live in Columbus. I am 72 years old and I have no prior political experience. I am not exceptionally intelligent, nor am I famous. I am neither Republican nor Democrat. If I were running to be president of The United States in 2020, I would start a new party. It would be the Common Sense Party. What I have learned about politics and our democracy is from Lee Hamilton and observing what is happening to this country.

If elected I would not use executive power to issue an order. All policies would be through the House of Representatives and the Senate, even declaring war. I believe this is truly where the will of the people is and we should be governed by the people. The representatives of the House and the senators were elected by their constituents “to be their voice,” and I would respect their ability and desire to do so.

My beliefs and the foundation for my platform, if I were running for president, would be as follows, in order of priority:

1. Do what is best for the majority of the people as determined by a bipartisan vote of the House and Senate.

2. Re-establish global relationships, which have recently been broken, to make our country the leader of the free world again.

3. Have all people treated as equals no matter of race, religion, sexual preference or beliefs.

4. Have rapid-fire assault weapons banned except for military and law enforcement, and have extensive background checks on all people purchasing hand guns, rifles and shotguns.

5. Re-enter the worldwide climate control program.

6. Appoint the most dedicated, experienced and intelligent individuals to offices, regardless of their party affiliations, who will follow the law and do what is best for our country.

7. Tax individuals and corporations at a fair rate, putting more burden on the super wealthy to try to reduce our national debt.

8. Appoint non-biased judges to the Supreme Court in order to get non-biased judgments made on what is right, and best, for the citizens of the United States.

9. Allow immigrants into our country, but deport or imprison any that are drug dealers, gang members or those convicted of a felony.

10. Continue to have a superior military force, in the air, on the ground and on the sea.

These are the things that I would strive to provide to the citizens of the United States if I were elected president. I respectfully request that residents look for and vote for the candidate that most mirrors these views.

In the upcoming months, look for and seek candidates that will do what will make America proud. Do the right thing. Vote for the country, not the party.
