Local attorney Scott C. Andrews has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for Bartholomew Superior Court 2 judge in next year’s primary.

Andrews owns his own law practice in Columbus and was born and raised in Bartholomew County. He has been an attorney for 19 years, with 14 years in private practice in Columbus.

“It has been a dream of mine since law school to be able to serve my community as judge,” Andrews said. “I feel I have the necessary experience, temperament and local ties to serve well as judge, and I look forward to sharing my judicial philosophy with the voters of Bartholomew County.”

Andrews is seeking the judge seat currently held by long-time Judge Kathleen “Kitty” Tighe Coriden, who is retiring.

Two other Republicans have announced they also plan to seek the GOP nomination, Magistrate Joe Meek, who has served as Superior Court 2 magistrate since 2003, and local attorney Dominic Glover, who shares a law practice with Coriden. Meek and Glover announced their intention to run in May.

Andrews also has a tie to the Coriden law firm, serving as a partner from 2010 to 2015 as a part of Coriden Coriden Andrews & Glover LLC.

“…And I have had the opportunity to practice in front of her in court,” Andrews said of the retiring judge. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Judge Coriden, and if elected, I certainly have big shoes to fill.”

Andrews said his experience includes handling criminal prosecution, criminal defense, estate planning and administration, divorces, adoptions, complex corporate transactions and small claims.

“I’m not just a one-dimensional attorney,” he said. “I have had the opportunity to touch nearly every facet of the law.”

Andrews, 44, grew up in northern Bartholomew County near St. Louis Crossing. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and graduated from Columbus East High School in 1993. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1997 and a law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, New Jersey, in 2000.

In January 2002, Andrews, accepted a position as a deputy prosecutor, and in 2003, became an associate attorney with the Indianapolis law firm of Rubin & Levin. In January 2005, he returned to Columbus to join the Coriden Law Office until 2010, when he became a partner in Coriden Coriden Andrews & Glover LLC.

Andrews was also appointed by Judge James Worton as a Superior Court 1 public defender from 2014 to 2016. In January 2016, Andrews started his general practice, Andrews Law Office LLC, concentrating on business and corporate law, estate planning and administration, collections, school law and general litigation.

He previously sought the Republican nomination for Circuit Court judge, but lost in the 2016 primary to current judge Kelly Benjamin.

He has been appointed by Bartholomew County Prosecutor Bill Nash to serve as a part-time deputy prosecutor for the newly-established Bartholomew County Drug Recovery Court.

Andrews also serves as an attorney for the county’s sheriff merit board, the FairOaks Community Development Corp., the towns of Hope and Clifford, Estep & Co., Inc. and the Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board.
