Foster Grandparents training sessions planned

Adults age 55 and older are invited to become a Classroom Foster Grandparent to local students beginning this fall.

The Foster Grandparents program is a school-based tutoring and mentoring program for at-risk children. Locally, the program serves 29 educational sites using 71 volunteers across Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson, and Jennings counties.

Training sessions begin Tuesday in Columbus with school assignments beginning in mid-August. The program is open to volunteers 55 and older who can volunteer between 15 and 30 hours a week. No formal experience in mentoring or tutoring is needed.

Serving with Foster Grandparents provides seniors the opportunity to share their lifetime of experiences, talents, learning, wisdom and interest with local students in a one-on-one situation.
