Late start delays print coverage of Olympians state title run

Columbus East baseball players warm up under the lights at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis, at about 9 p.m. Monday.

A late start for the Class 4A baseball state championship meant The Republic was unable to include coverage of the Columbus East High School game in today’s print edition.

However, there is coverage at therepublic.com from the Republic sports team, from the first pitch at 9:50 p.m. Monday night through the gathering at East after the game in Columbus for fans to celebrate the team. The game was expected to be completed at midnight to 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, pending any weather delays.

The start of the East game, at Victory Field in Indianapolis, was delayed for more than an hour after storms caused a lightning delay in the first game of the championship session, in which University High School beat Washington Township for the 1A title.

East was able to begin their warmups slightly after 9 p.m. Monday.
