Duncan tied for 25th after opening-round 67

Tyler Duncan birdied the final five holes Thursday to fire an opening-round 3-under-par 67 on Thursday and is tied for 25th in The Travelers Championship.

Duncan, a 2008 Columbus North graduate, carded a 1-over 36 on the front nine and a 4-under 31 on the back at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Ryan Armour, Bronson Burgoon, Kyoung-Hoon Lee, Abraham Ancer, Mackenzie Hughes and Zach Sucher are in a six-way tie for the lead at 6-under 64.

North golfer falls in Women’s Western Junior semis

Nathaly Munnicha’s run in the Women’s Western Junior Championship ended in the semifinals Thursday morning.

Munnicha, who will be a junior at Columbus North, fell to Jocelyn Bruch, who will be a senior at Westfield, 3-and-2 at Woodland Country Club in Carmel.

Bruch fell to Westfield resident and Guerin Catholic golfer Gabriella Gilrowski 2-and-1 in the final.

Former Bull Dog takes 50th in Indiana Amateur

Bryce Turner carded a final-round 78 Wednesday and Thursday to finish in a tie for 50th place in the Indiana Amateur Championship.

Turner, a Columbus North gradaute who will be a junior at St. Francis, shot 77 and 74 in the first two rounds to make the cut by one shot and finished at 13-over-par 229. The tournament was shortened from 72 to 54 holes because of rain.

Former Bloomington South and current Purdue golfer Joe Weiler beat former Floyd Central and current Indiana University golfer Jack Sparrow on the second hole of a playoff after both had finished at 8-under 208.

North golfer wins division in IGA junior event

Aditya Banerjee won the Boys 13-15-year-old division in Wednesday’s Indiana Golf Association junior event at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour.

Banerjee, who will be a sophomore at Columbus North, carded a 10-over-par 82. Jacob Sabotin, a Columbus resident who will be a sophomore at Trinity Lutheran, tied for third with an 85.

Meanwhile, Annie Anderson, who will be a senior at North, tied for second in the Girls 16-19 division with an 81. Macy Euler finished third in the Girls 13-15 division with an 84, while fellow incoming North sophomores Ella Wilks tied for fourth with an 85 and Gwen Anderson finished sixth with a 94.

Michael Giambiani, who will be a junior at North, tied for fourth in the Boys 16-19 division with a 77.
