COLUMBUS, Ind. — An 18-year-old Columbus East senior emerged from a field of 15 contestants Sunday night to be named the 2019 Bartholomew County 4-H Fair Queen.

Mackenzie Smith, daughter of Tod and Jeni Smith, was crowned by last year’s queen, Madelyn Steinwedel, before an estimated crowd of about 500 people at the Columbus North Judson Erne Auditorium.

The queen and her three-member court will spend July 5-13 at the Bartholomew County Fair. Smith, who will receive a scholarship and various other honors from local businesses, will represent Bartholomew County at the Indiana State Fair queen pageant in January.
