Around Town – July 6

Thought for the Day

• “Freedom is always and exclusively freedom for the one who thinks differently.”

• — Rosa Luxemburg

• Polish-German revolutionary

• 1871-1919

Orchids to …

• those who understand the ACA gave all of us guaranteed coverage regardless of pre-existing conditions and ended annual and lifetime limits as well as added many other protections to give peace of mind to those who are ill.

• the fellows at Case Construction for the great job working on the parking lot at All Saints Apartments, every one is a gentleman.

• Sam Ferrenburg for a well-written, thoughtful letter regarding the localized effect of Brighter Days homeless shelter.

• Dakota Hudelson for a thoughtful letter regarding the importance and purpose of public education.

• Ken Fudge, with whom I seldom agree, as the low primary turnout was due to apathy as the result of a lack of choice.

• Terrell and all the employees at Fazoli’s for their over-the-top customer service.

• Donna at MyChart for be so helpful in getting my MyChart up and activated again, I appreciate it so much.

• the fast food restaurant on Third Street for the courteous, friendly and wonderful service.

• President Trump for the wonderful “Salute to America” 4th of July presentation.

• Greg Giles at Voelz Body Shop for outstanding service on my car at an exceptional price.

• Ken Fudge for his spot-on correct observation about our questionable local government.

• Congressman Lee Hamilton for his column about the federal debt and why we should begin to address the problem now.

Onions to …

• people who want every child to be treated equally and have equal access but forget that equality also includes people being rude and not always nice.

• those who don’t realize millions of working people have insurance through and because of the ACA because their employers don’t offer health insurance.

• the president who hijacked the 4th of July celebration for his over-sized ego rather than honoring the real heroes who have and are protecting our freedoms and not siding with the murderous dictators who would like nothing better than to see this country fall to pieces so that they could swoop in and take over.

• the president, who makes events like the 75th anniversary of the Normandy invasion, or the annual 4th of July celebration on the National Mall, all about himself.

• the Tipton Lakes homeowner who disrespects the 4th of July and his neighbors by setting off explosives loud enough to shake our houses and scare our pets — that’s not what celebrating our freedom is about!

• those unaware that even above-average citizens have lost faith in the city administration.

• far-left Democrats who want a secular, godless America.

• those who cannot be satisfied with only expertly-produced community-organized fireworks.

• all the Democrats who attempted to once again create a divide by saying the president’s 4th of July “Salute to America” was political when it was far from political.

• the young lady I let go in front of me at the grocery store who proceeded to treat me with the most disrespect ever — I will pray for you and your grandmother.
