CPD hires new officers

Columbus Police Department has hired three new officers.

Alex Hill, John Busack and Adriane Polley were joined by their families and sworn in Tuesday by Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

Hill, 21, is a Columbus resident who graduated from Columbus North High School. While in high school, she was a Columbus police cadet for two years. Hill later attended Ball State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. She also completed an internship with the Muncie Police Department, and later became a reserve officer at their agency while working with its drug task force.

Busack, 23, moved to Columbus from Nebraska when he was 2. He graduated from Columbus East High School and attended IUPUI, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. Busack was employed with the Bartholomew County Community Corrections for the past two years.

Polley, 21, is a Columbus resident and a graduate of Columbus Christian School. After high school, Polley enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he became a weapons squad team leader. Polley previously worked in the Bartholomew County Jail.

The new officers will spend the next several weeks undergoing training at Columbus Police Department before they attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in September.
