Local man arrested after disturbance at gas station

Joseph Caudill

Columbus police officers arrested a local man after he was accused of causing a disturbance and refused to leave a Columbus gas station on Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:55 p.m., CPD officers responded to the Marathon Gas Station, 1105 Washington St., about an intoxicated person inside the store who was later identified as Joseph B. Caudill, 27, of Columbus, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

According to the police report, Caudill began causing a disturbance inside the store and refused to leave the business when asked by the employees, Harris said.

When the officers attempted to restrain Caudill, he resisted, and was taken to the floor where a struggle ensued, Harris said.

Caudill was placed in handcuffs and leg restraints and transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and later remanded to the Bartholomew County Jail onĀ  preliminary charges of public intoxication, trespassing and resisting law enforcement, Harris said.
