MALE

Chase Austin, Brown County freshman cross-country runner

Austin finished 42nd in 17 minutes, 31 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles) Saturday to lead the Eagles to a 16th-place team finish in Saturday’s Valley Cross Kickoff at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross-Country Course in Terre Haute.

His performance last week: “I felt like it was pretty good, especially for the first meet. It’s definitely not a flat course, so I thought my time was good for that. .”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “In the days before, I took it easier than I have the past couple of weeks.”

Favorite drink: “I drink a lot of milk.”

Favorite food: “Mac and cheese”

Favorite class: “Math”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana Pacers”

Favorite athlete: “Victor Oladipo”

Role model: “My grandpa (Mike Wheeler) was a runner.”

Best advice: “I’ve always heard, ‘Run my race.’ You want to get a good start and make sure you can hold that position.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to get to state this year.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d really like to go to Europe because it’s a different culture.”

FEMALE

Nathaly Munnicha, Columbus North junior golfer

Munnicha fired a 2-under-par 33 to win medalist honors and lead the Bull Dogs to a 150-205 win at Jennings County. She also had a 75 Saturday to tie for fourth individually and lead North to a fourth-place finish in the Zionsville Invitational.

Her performance last week: “I played all right, but I could have done better. I left a couple of shots out there. But I still have a lot of the season to go.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually warm up around the putting green.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “Ice cream”

Favorite class: “Math”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana Pacers”

Favorite athlete: “Tiger Woods”

Role model: “My parents (Khamphet and Joanne Munnicha)”

Best advice: “One shot at a time. Don’t get ahead of yourself.”

Athletics goal: “I would really like to play college golf.”
