Olympians down Cougars

BLOOMINGTON — Lauren Steinwedel and Harley Gant tied for medalist honors with 44s Tuesday to lead Columbus East to a 186-208 win against Bloomington North at Cascades.

Peyton Meier carded a 48 for the Olympians. Cristen Martinez added a 50, Ellie Hong shot 59 and Mattie Shoaf had a 60.

Trojans top Bull Dogs

GREENWOOD — Columbus North was tied with Class 3A No. 4 Center Grove 1-1 with nine minutes left in the first half, but the Trojans pulled away for a 7-1 victory.

Center Grove scored in the second minute, but a goal from the Bull Dogs’ Ben Malone in the 11th minute tied the match. The Trojans scored in the 32nd minute and led 2-1 at halftime.

Center Grove added goals in the 50th, 59th, 63rd, 68th and 69th minutes.

The Trojans outshot North (1-4) 39-7, putting 24 shots on goal to the Bull Dogs’ four. Colvin Iorio played the first 66 minutes in goal and recorded 16 saves before Jared Marquez played the final 14 minutes and had one save.

Eagles edge Edgewood

ELLETTSVILLE — Will Normile scored two second-half goals off assists from his younger brother Sam Normile to rally Brown County its first win of the season, a 2-1 Western Indiana Conference decision at Edgewood.

The Eagles (1-3-1, 1-1-1) outshot the Mustangs 14-8. Ethan Scott recorded seven saves.

Pioneers blank Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County played Class A No. 3 Providence tough in a 2-0 defeat.

Cameron Woodard posted 12 saves (1-4) for the Panthers.

Warriors topple Trinity

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran was within 3-2 at halftime before falling to Christian Academy of Indiana 5-3.

Zephyr Wilson, Caleb Baumgartel and Jacob Sabotin scored goals for the Cougars (0-4). Kash Siefker and Micah Baumgartel had assists.

The Warriors outshot Trinity 26-17. Brayden Stockleman recorded 23 saves.

Panthers shut out Eagles

NASHVILLE — Katie Pappenheim and Baylee Byford each netted three goals and three assists to lead Jennings County to a 9-0 win at Brown County

Morgan Lane, Emily Montgomery and Lauren Green all had one goal for the Panthers (3-2). Green and Lane each had an assist.

Jennings outshot the Eagles (0-2) 20-3. Kenna Maschino played the first half in goal for the Panthers, and Tori Lee played the second half and recorded three saves.

Hauser boys second

GREENSBURG — Hauser’s boys finished second in a tri meet at Greensburg. The host Pirates won with 19 points to 54 for the Jets and 63 for the Cougars.

Ryan Ault led Hauser with a second-place finish in 19 minutes, 17 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Noah Estes took eighth in 20:12, while Alex Bower 12th (21:56), Tanner Ault 22nd (24:57) and Cameron Toole 24th (25:57).

Trevor Newby finished ninth in 20:45 to lead South Decatur. Nick Keppel took 11th in 21:24, while Logan Platt was 15th (22:37), Jack Hamilton 20th (24:26) and Tyler Reddelman 23rd (25:36).

Greensburg beat South Decatur 15-48 in the girls meet. The Jets did not have enough runners to score as a team.

Sierra Kalli led the Cougars with a sixth-place finish in 25:35. Ali Boilanger took 10th in 29:07, while Abigail Collins was 16th (30:32), Claire Hamilton 18th (30:58) and Tori Storm 19th (32:20).

Hauser’s Kaitlynn Everroad finished 12th in 29:10, and Addison Jones was 17th in 30:43.

Eagle boys take sixth

ELLETTSVILLE — Brown County’s boys finished sixth with an average time of 20:28.29 in Edgewood’s Mustang Invitational. Edgewood won with 19:32.16.

Chase Austin led the Eagles with a seventh-place finish in 18:45.10. Rafe Silbaugh took 22nd in 20:01.42, while Cameron Fox was 35th (20:39.40), Waylon Patrick 44th (20:56.05) and Rhett Silbaugh 63rd (21:59.49).

Brown County had four girls runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team. Hadley Gradolf finished sixth in 22:15.77, while Emma DeBord was ninth (22:43.48), Anna Fleetwood 16th (23:43.75) and Maris Wyman 28th (25:11.42).

Spartans slip past Jets

HOPE — Hauser won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, but Southwestern (Shelby) took the other three to claim a 3-2 Mid-Hoosier Conference victory.

Ethan Wallace beat Nick Robinson 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Levi Gollmer downed Connor Rowe 6-4, 2-6, (10-6) at No. 2 singles for the Jets (0-3, 0-1).

Hauser’s Alex Pattingill fell to Grant Emerick 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Caleb Hoover and Sam Miller lost to Anthony Atwood and Decklan Pappano 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Keagan Miller and Carson Rose fell to Caleb Pappano and Tristan Pappano 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Rebels nip Panthers

HANOVER — Southwestern (Hanover) pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to hand Jennings County a 3-2 loss.

Wyatt St. John beat Landon DeAtley 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Justin Ramey blanked Jackson Stockdale 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Panthers (1-5).

Jennings’ Owen Law fell to Jordan DeAtley 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Joe Kelley and Jacob Vogel lost to Foster Mefford and Zach Cole 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Alex Leach and Greyson Jackson fell to Carter Harmon and Derrick Osborn 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Hawks fall in three

MADISON — The Columbus Hawks came close in the first set, but Madison Christian Academy cruised in the final two for a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 victory.

Sarah Lorimor led the Hawks (2-4) with two kills, four assists and four aces. Natalie Arnold and Hailey Beth Rutledge each pounded two kills, Lila Hudson had two block assists and Elisabeth White tallied 11 digs.

Also for the Hawks, McKiah Shearer recorded one assist and one block assist, and Arnold had one block assist Lorimor and Abby Planalp each notched seven digs, and Planalp served two aces.

Patriots sweep Eagles

SPENCER — Brown County couldn’t get much going in a 25-8, 25-8, 25-16 WIC loss at Owen Valley.

The Eagles fell to 5-2.
