The Columbus Area Arts Council is hosting the free 411 Gallery Exhibition and Art Alley Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 411 Sixth St. downtown.
The gathering along Sixth Street, to be closed to traffic, is a multi-faceted event to celebrate a redesign of a flexible, gallery artist studio space and to highlight the new fall exhibitions at the structure — and the building’s new mural “Learning Patterns” on the east facade.
LAA Office, a new local landscape, art and architecture firm led by Lulu Loquidis and Daniel Luis Martinez, did the studio renovation for the arts council as part of the agency’s new Designers-In-Residence Program. The pair also is responsible for the mural, funded by the The Columbus Museum of Art & Design.
The Heritage Fund — the Community Foundation of Bartholomew County funded the studio work. And LAA Office worked with Tovey Perry Co. on the studio fabrication and installation.
Thursday’s event will feature music, a food truck, wine, beer, and more, according to organizers.
The 411 is a community arts gallery and cultural space for exhibitions, events and collaborations with Columbus’ arts and cultural organizations. This new exhibition will highlight the 50th Anniversary of the Cleo Rogers Memorial Library building, a celebration that began earlier this year.
One display is the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives’ presentation titled “Respectfully Submitted, Cleo Rogers.” It expands on LAA Office’s recent research for the “Cleo Turns 50” exhibition. The other, “Learning Patterns” (same as the title of the mural), reinterprets historical diagrams used for organizing the library’s furniture layouts.
