CPD arrests local man sleeping in stolen car on warrant

A local man who was sleeping in a stolen vehicle was arrested by Columbus police officers on Wednesday morning.

At about 9:10 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 1000 block of Robert Drive in regards to a report of a suspicious person sleeping in a car.

When officers arrived they recognized the man sleeping in the vehicle as Anthony D. Mattox, 36, of Columbus and determined that he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Shelby County. The officers also determined that the vehicle Mattox was sleeping in had been reported stolen in Bartholomew County.

While searching the stolen vehicle, the officers reportedly located methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia

Mattox was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Possession of Stolen Property

Possession of a Syringe

Possession of Methamphetamine

Possession of Marijuana
