Local man arrested after found sleeping in stolen car

A local man who was sleeping in a stolen vehicle was arrested by Columbus police officers.

At about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, CPD officers responded to the 1000 block of Robert Drive in regards to a report of a suspicious person sleeping in a car.

When officers arrived they recognized the man sleeping in the vehicle as Anthony D. Mattox, 36, of 1702 McCullough Lane, and determined that he had a felony warrant for his arrest out of Shelby County, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. The officers also determined that the vehicle Mattox was sleeping in had been reported stolen in Bartholomew County.

While searching the stolen vehicle, the officers reportedly located methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Mattox was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of a syringe
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Possession of marijuana

Mattox was being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
