Body discovered off Indianapolis Road

Emergency responders investigate the death of a white male whose body was found Thursday afternoon in a cornfield east of Indianapolis Road, about a quarter-mile north of Tellman Camp Road.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — An investigation is continuing into the discovery of a body found Thursday afternoon in a farm field off Indianapolis Road.

A white male in his 30s was found about 25 feet off the east side of the road in a farm field about a quarter mile north of Tellman Camp Road, said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers.

The body was found by a farmer harvesting corn who notified police at 3:40 p.m. Thursday.

Myers said the sheriff’s department knows who the individual is, but is withholding the identity until all family notifications could be made. The individual had been arrested on Tuesday, booked into the jail and then released on a leaving the scene of an accident charge, Myers said. Family members live nearby where the body was found, Myers said.

At this time, investigators have no reason to suspect foul play, said Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department’s road division commander Capt. Dave Steinkoenig. “But we will continue the investigation until we are 100% sure,” Steinkoenig said.

Detectives with the sheriff’s department and Columbus Township Fire Department personnel are at the scene.
