Duck Splash raises thousands for community programs

Staff Reports

The 16th annual Kiwanis Incredible Duck Splash raised $69,395 to help youth organizations in the community on Saturday at Mill Race Park.

This year, 17,993 ducks were sold, slightly less than last year, but 2019 will still be the second-best year ever for the event, organizers said.

The Lucky Duck Number was held by John Asel of Columbus, however his duck was not one of the first 10 drawn, so he did not win the new car from Chevrolet of Columbus or $50,000. However, he will receive a $100 consolation prize.

The event involves having community members adopt thousands of rubber ducks which are placed into Round Lake at Mill Race Park. Many are dropped by helicopter into the lake.

This year, 20 nonprofit, youth-oriented organizations will split 80% of the money raised, while the remaining 20% will go toward programs for children and young people sponsored by the local Kiwanis Clubs.
