Reservations are needed for First Christian Church’s annual Community Thanksgiving Meal only if diners want a meal delivered to their home on Nov. 28.
But reservations ideally are needed for both dine-in and delivered meals at Columbus Baptist Church’s Feed the Flock gathering the same day, though organizers have clearly said no one will be turned away if the show up without a reservation.
Both meals are free, and are not linked in any way to financial need. Instead, they are intended for those without a place to go for the holiday, those without a way to prepare a meal or those seeking simple fellowship with others, according to organizers.
Columbus Baptist’s turkey-and-trimmings meal is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations are needed there only because organizers ran out of turkey late in last year’s meal, organizers said. First Christian’s meal, done with the help of others such as Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center and the financial help of area businesses, is slated from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
