Throughout March, Jennings County High School will be participating in Youth Art Month.

Youth Art Month, which was first started in 1961 by The Art & Creative Materials Institute, is meant to promote art supply safety and encourage support for quality art programs in schools.

JCHS is just one of thousands of American schools participating in the program, which isn’t new to the school.

“Jennings County has participated in Youth Art Month for at least 12 years,” JCHS art teacher Karen Chilman said.

JCHS has multiple events planned, including weekly themed dress-up days focused around the arts.

The high school student with the best submitted costume will receive a $100 gift card.

In March, JCHS AP Studio Art students will be displaying their art across North Vernon in order to promote youth art.

While each student’s display will last a different amount of time, all the displays will feature original student-made works of art.

In past years, JCHS has hosted a “Saturday Classics” event for elementary students during Youth Art Month.

The school has also held art shows in the community and provided backdrops of famous buildings for photos of students and faculty.
