The Columbus Salvation Army has been closed since Wednesday afternoon because its staff of Capt. Amy Tompkins and administrative assistant Nancy Johnson were exposed to someone eight days ago who just tested positive for COVID-19.

Tompkins said the exposure was elsewhere in Columbus and not at the Salvation Army office at 2525 Illinois Ave.

Tompkins also said she and Johnson nor any volunteers working inside the buildingĀ  have recently exhibited any symptoms of the illness. But all have now gone into at-home quarantine through April 15, per health officials’ guidelines. That will mark a two-week point since the exposure, Tompkins said.

She also mentioned that the public has not been allowed inside the offices since March 13.

The Salvation Army office will reopen at 9 a.m. April 16.
