When it comes to a fishing trip, there’s always time to bond over the experience.

Tuesday, 20 kids joined a group of police officers representing the Columbus Police Department and Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, along with the local school resource officers, for a Hook a Kid on Fishing trip.

The event was held in the lake behind the Fraternal Order of Police property on County Road 450S. There, the group shared a morning of learning about fishing, and also about police officers and what they do in the community.

Sponsored the the Fraternal Order of Police, this year’s event had to be limited somewhat due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some future fishermen cast from the shore, while others ventured out on to the lake.

Tuesday’s perfect weather provided an opportunity for officers to teach kids about fishing, and that officers are approachable, friendly and willing to help, with things like baiting a hook, navigating in a boat, and other stuff as well.

The Fraternal Order of Police also provided lunch for the participants, before everyone headed home by early afternoon.
