COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early morning incident that resulted in a motorcycle accident near Mill Race Center early Saturday.
Sheriff’s deputies located a group of motorcycles traveling southbound on U.S. 31 at a high rate of speed early Saturday, deputies said.
When attempting to make a traffic stop, the cyclists refused to stop for the deputies and accelerated to very high speeds, deputies said.
Due to the high speed, deputies did not pursue the motorcycles.
Later, a crashed motorcycle was located near Mill Race Center, deputies said. A female, believed to be a passenger on one of the motorcycles, was flown by Lifeline helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital, deputies said. The driver of the motorcycle was not located.
Anyone with information about this accident should call law enforcement, deputies said. Crash reconstruction is being done by the Indiana State Police.
Agencies on scene included Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire Department and the Indiana State Police.
