Bull Dogs dominate conference fall sports

Brian Lewis’ first sports season as Columbus North athletics director couldn’t have gone much better.

The Bull Dogs won Conference Indiana titles in seven of the eight fall sports and hold commanding leads in both the boys and girls All-Sports races heading into the winter season.

“Not just for me, but if you talk to any AD, you always want to have success in your athletic program,” Lewis said. “This isn’t about me. I can’t take credit for anything because I’m not out there on the field or coaching our kids.”

The Bull Dog boys, thanks to conference championships in football, soccer, cross-country and tennis, have the maximum 32 points through the fall sports season. Bloomington North is a distant second with 17, followed by Bloomington South (15), Terre Haute South (11.5), Southport (11) and Terre Haute North (9.5).

On the girls side, Columbus North has 26.5 points thanks to titles in soccer, cross-country and golf and a tie for fourth in volleyball. Bloomington South is second with 20 points, followed by Terre Haute South (16), Bloomington North (15), Terre Haute North (11.5) and Southport (7).

“Winning seven out of eight conference (titles) is amazing, no matter how long you’ve been there,” Lewis said. “It shows that our kids are working hard, and our coaches are pushing them to the best of their ability. It’s been pretty cool watching our kids have success this year.”
