Driver arrested after crashing stolen truck into vacant apartment

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A local man was arrested on several charges early Thursday morning after he was accused of crashing a stolen truck into a vacant apartment.
At approximately 3:07 a.m., CPD officers were sent to the 1500 block of 27th Place in regards to the crash, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Upon arrival, the officers located Zachary D. Perry, 29, of Columbus, stumbling on foot in the area, Harris said.
During the course of the investigation, the officers determined the truck Perry wrecked was stolen from a family member.  The crash caused a gas leak and a fire in the apartment which was vacant and did not have an occupant.
Perry was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was being held on the following preliminary charges:
–Auto Theft
–Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash
–Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated
