Separate accidents Sunday claim lives of two local residents

COLUMBUS, IN – A 53-year-old Edinburgh man is dead as the result of a crash that happened around 8:55 p.m. Sunday in Columbus. Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting was called to the scene of the crash on U.S. 31 (National Road) near the Indianapolis Road overpass.

Nolting pronounced Musa Rahmani dead at the scene due to blunt force trauma to the head and chest. He was the passenger in a Buick Rendezvous that had been northbound on U.S. 31 when it apparently lost control and crossed the median, striking a semi tractor-trailer. Rahmani was ejected from the vehicle upon impact.

The driver of the Buick was transported to an Indianapolis hospital, and the driver of the semi was uninjured. The crash is being investigated by Columbus Police Department.

Mr. Rahmani was the second vehicle passenger to die in a crash in Bartholomew County on Sunday.

A 10-year-old girl is dead following a single-vehicle traffic crash in eastern Bartholomew County Sunday afternoon. Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting was called to the scene of the 4:35 p.m. crash on East 25th Street, west of County Road 650 East.

Nolting pronounced Kayydence Mings of Columbus dead at the scene from massive traumatic injuries. She was a rear seat passenger in a westbound 2015 Nissan Pathfinder driven by her mother, Katelyn Mings of Columbus. The crash is being investigated by Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office with reconstruction assistance from Indiana State Police. Kayydence Mings was enrolled at Parkside Elementary School.

The accident is being investigated by Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. While both crashes continue to be investigated by police reconstructionists, Nolting said he urges all drivers to use extra caution when winter weather makes roadways slick.
