Officers arrest local man found unresponsive in Walmart parking lot

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police officers arrested a local man on numerous charges after he was accused of lying about his identity while speaking with officers on Sunday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m., CPD officers responded to Walmart, located at 2025 Merchants Mile, in regards to a report of a man who was unresponsive inside a vehicle. When officers arrived, they located the man, later identified as William C. Brewer, 28, of Columbus, who was slouched over inside the vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When officers spoke with Brewer, he initially provided a false name, Harris said. The officers later determined Brewer’s identity and confirmed a local warrant for his arrest a short time later.

Brewer was placed under arrest and while searching his clothing, the officers located a syringe in one of Brewer’s pants pockets, Harris said.

Brewer was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of a Bartholomew County warrant, possession of a syringe and false informing.
