Harmon threw a two-hit shutout in a 10-0, five-inning win against Center Grove in the title game of Saturday’s Noblesville Invitational. Earlier in the day, he went 2 for 3 with a double and earned the save pitching in a 12-10 win over Mt. Vernon.

His performance last week: “I felt good, but it was a team win. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as confident about our entire lineup as I do this year. I feel good as a part of this team right now.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to put my headphones in and listen to music and get mentally prepared. I tell our team we need to go out there and prepare like we’re playing the No. 1 team in the state every day.”

Favorite drink: “Sunny D”

Favorite food: “Chicken Fettucine Alfredo”

Favorite class: “Hoosiers”

Favorite sports team: “Duke”

Favorite athlete: “Jack Leiter”

Role model: “My parents (Mike and Kelly Harmon).”

Best advice: “Live in the moment and appreciate what you have.”

Athletics goal: “To get paid to play the sport I love.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d probably to on a vacation to Hawaii or Cancun, just because I’ve heard good things about them.”

Maddi Rutan // Columbus North sophomore softball player

Rutan threw a two-hit shutout and hit a two-run homer in a 4-0 win against Terre Haute North, then went 3 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs and earned the save pitching in a 9-6 win against Terre Haute South on Saturday.

Her performance last week: “I was really nervous at the beginning of the first game because it’s my first high school game, but I was super excited to get out there with my team, and I was happy with how I did and that my teammates had my back.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Stretch as much as I need and make sure my body is loose and make sure I feel ready and prepared when I go up there and have confidence in myself.”

Favorite drink: “Sweet tea”

Favorite food: “Mexican”

Favorite class: “Physical education or science”

Favorite sports team: “Kentucky or Eastern Kentucky softball”

Favorite athlete: “Abby Cheek and Jennie Finch”

Role model: “My pitching coach (Ron McDonald Jr.) and my high school coach (Ron McDonald Sr.), and I look up to my dad (Darren Rutan) a lot.”

Best advice: “Believe in your heart that you can do it and have confidence in yourself and work your hardest because if you don’t work hard, it’s not going to get you anywhere.”

Athletics goal: “I’d like to break some records at North if possible, and I would like to go to college for academics and softball and grow up to be the best person I can be.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because it’s beautiful, I’ve never been there and I met a softball team out of Hawaii at a tournament in Colorado, and we still stay in touch with their coach.”
