BCPL DIAL-A-STORY, all day, April 1 to 30. Starting April 1, you can dial 812-579-4123 to hear a story from a librarian — any time you like! Stories and other readings will be available for both children and adults. New selections will be available every Tuesday. In April, librarians will be sharing their favorite poems and rhymes in honor of National Poetry Month.

SMALL TOWN CITY CONCERT, 7:30 p.m., April 16, First United Methodist Church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. First United Methodist Church will host an in-person and virtual Fridays@First concert featuring the duo Small Town City with two members of the a cappella group Straight No Chaser, Ryan Ahlwardt and Mike Luginbill. SIBELIUS & RACH 2, 7:30 p.m., April 17, Columbus North High School Auditorium, 1400 25th St., Columbus. The concert opens with Mozart’s sparkling wedding overture followed by Sibelius’s Finnish Independence Symphony. Sibelius 2 is filled with longings for freedom, and his expression of the triumph of liberty clearly reflects Beethoven’s 9th. Displaying tenderness, lyricism, power, and a charming charisma, Di Wu performs Rach 2, considered by many to be the world’s favorite piano concerto.

WHO’S AFRAID OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC? AN AURALLY-FRIENDLY DEMO-RECITAL, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., April 18, Zoom or Facebook Live. Join Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Josh Aerie in a look behind-the-scenes at performing, interpreting, and appreciating new music. Aerie will give a glimpse into the process of bringing a brand new piece to life, including working with a composer, exploring the composition’s musical “voice” and the importance of audience engagement. Featuring works for solo cello representing a variety of contemporary styles. This event will be livestreamed on Facebook Live and available through Zoom. A MOTHER’S DAY TRIBUTE TO BRAHMS, 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., May 1, virtual or at Helen Haddad Music, Arts & Events Center, 315 Franklin St., Columbus. ELEVATE, 3 to 5 p.m., April 20, Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St., Columbus. ELEVATE — Taking Your Relationship to the Next Level is an interactive couple’s education program that blends practical skills with an understanding of the heart-brain-behavior connection to enhance a healthy relationship. Together, as a couple, you will initiate discussions, learn and practice several skills to maintain a healthy and stable relationship. No matter where you are in your relationship, the skills you’ll learn will have a lifelong impact. Cost is $10 per person to cover book fees. VET-TO-VET DISCUSSION, 5:10 p.m., Mondays, Mill Race Center, 900 Lindsey St., Columbus. Hour-long, facilitator-led group discussions with others who have served in the military. Attendees are able to share experiences with fellow veterans.

Sports, exercise, wellness

iCAN VIRTUAL 54, April 1 to 29, virtual. The Columbus Autism Network is pleased to once again offer an annual event to support and bring awareness to the local community. During the month of April, there will be a month-long competitive virtual 54-mile race. This event will allow individuals and teams to accumulate 54 miles to compete for prizes. Teams of no more than six and individuals can accumulate their miles by running, walking, cycling, or swimming. Participants must have a way to track miles and time, activity for the month must be submitted no later than April 29. BLACKWELL PARK STORYWALK, April 1 to 30. The Bartholomew County Public Library, together with the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, present “Unstoppable,” by Adam Rex and illustrated by Laura Park. The StoryWalk is located along the People Trail near the Pollinator Park.

DOWNTOWN COLUMBUS STORYWALK, April 1 to 30. This April, you can read “Saturday,” by Oge Mora, in the shop windows of downtown Columbus. The story begins in the window of Hoosier Sporting Goods at 611 Washington St. Follow the windows south to Third Street, and then head north to Viewpoint books. Brought to you by the Bartholomew County Public Library and downtown merchants.

WILLow LeaVes of Hope & Actor Studio of Hope presents “Elvis Has Left the Building” at dinner theater. The Colonel has racked up some debts and needs Elvis for a performance to pay them off. But Elvis is missing and the Colonel is trying to find an Elvis impersonator and takes desperate measures to replace a man who is irreplaceable. Cost is $30.00 per person, which includes a full dinner with dessert, drink, and play. Galleries, museums, exhibits

The current special exhibit, courtesy of the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives and Ball State University, explores Columbus’ seven national historic landmarks.

YELLOW TRAIL MUSEUM/VISITOR CENTER, west side of Hope Town Square at 644 Main St., Hope. The board recently announced the museum anticipates opening on May 4 with the anticipated hours being Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. and also Saturdays tentatively 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This also includes the “Sunday Socials,” which typically meet the first Sunday of each month. ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM, located at Columbus Municipal Airport, 4742 Ray Boll Blvd., Columbus, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The art of three artists is featured during April. Peter Rujuwa’s stone sculptures portray love and family unity in both human and animal species. Beth Parrock creates fused glass tiles and jewelry with natural stones, glass beads, and fused glass cabochons. Geoff Keller makes ink and pencil drawings of wildlife using thousands of extremely tiny dots on hand shaped wooden sculptures using aspen and other hardwoods.
