Letter: Pence responds to article on relief bill

From: U.S. Rep. Greg Pence

Columbus

It is with great amusement that I have observed the recent attacks levied by Democrats and their not-so-silent partners in the media that culminated in the recent article The Republic published under the headline “Pence Touts Relief Bill He Voted Against.”

What your readers should know is that Democrats think they control and own your tax dollars. They believe that it is an acceptable practice to buy support with your money. They believe in rewarding their political allies with your money. They also believe that if your congressman does not support every piece of their big-government legislative agenda, you do not deserve a penny of your hard-earned tax dollars back.

What Democrats are telling the American people is that your scrutiny — and the scrutiny of your member of Congress — is not worthy, and your vote does not matter.

I am not the “my way or the highway” sort. Nor am I a lifelong politician. But I’ll be damned if I ever get in the Washington mindset that Congress has the moral authority over the people. We work for you — not the other way around.

I will never apologize for serving my constituents, and I will never stop working for the people of Indiana’s Sixth Congressional District.
