Not sure when to take out the trash on Memorial Day week? Now there’s an app for that.

The City of Columbus is launching a new app called “Columbus Collects” to help remind residents of pickup dates. Department of Public Works Operations Assistant Shelly Burns said that while the app officially launches on Monday, it is already available for download.

The free app shows a specific collection calendar based on a resident’s address, Burns said. Residents can use the app to sign up for waste collection reminders via email, phone call or text.

Burns said these reminders will include pickup dates for trash, recycling, yard waste and brush, as well as information on changes in pickup due to holidays. She said that the city is also able to send out notifications for delays and events such as spring cleanup.

“There’s also a Waste Wizard within the app,” Burns added. “And in that Waste Wizard, you can look up over 10,000 items and see how to properly dispose of them.”

Residents can also use the app to submit queries to the city and suggest new items to add to the Waste Wizard.

The app can be downloaded on the Apple Store or Google Play by searching “Columbus DPW” or “Columbus Collects.” An online version is available at columbus.in.gov/public-works/.
