FRANKLIN — Police arrested a Columbus man Thursday for causing a disturbance in a Franklin neighborhood and kicking an officer.

Sergio Perez, 31, was arrested on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and battery against a public safety official.

Police responded about 9 p.m. to a report that Perez was kicking a vehicle and “going crazy.” Perez, who first falsely identified himself, put his hands behind his back at the sight of the police, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

Witnesses told police Perez was on top of the victim’s vehicle as it was driving in a zig-zag pattern. The victim told police she had told Perez he could not stay with her due to his drunken state and offered to drive him to his home in Columbus, according to the report.

Police smelled alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred, the report said.

The victim said she locked Perez out of her car, and he responded by getting on the roof of the car, smashing the windshield and tearing off the windshield wipers, according to the report.

While being arrested, Perez consistently yelled back and forth with neighbors, despite police asking him to stop. He then kicked an officer in the leg and had to be restrained. Neighbors told police he said he would remember their house and come back.
