Club Olympia competes at historic Riviera Club

Club Olympia Swim Team finished second behind host Riviera Club in the 2021 Riviera Summer Spectacular last weekend in Indianapolis.

Thirty of Club Olympia’s 33 athletes finished well enough in events to score points.

The meet held the exciting “Friday Fifties” (50-meter sprints in all four strokes) and the “Moonlight Mile” (a 1,500-meter event swam under the lights) for a fun Friday night start to the weekend. Both were “open” events for all age groups.

Club Olympia podium finishers in the Friday Fifties included Ashley Freel, who took first place, in the freestyle and butterfly and second in the backstroke. Brady Beyer won the breaststroke and finished eighth in the butterfly and backstroke. Hope Westphal was first in the breaststroke, third in the butterfly, seventh in the freestyle and eighth in the backstroke. Erica Samuel claimed fourth in the breaststroke, sixth in the butterfly and seventh in the backstroke. Maggie Johnson placed second in both the freestyle and butterfly. Dathan Wolf took seventh in the backstroke. Connelly Furnish, Mischa Machavariani, and Pratt Badve were all on the podium in the breaststroke.

In the Moonlight Mile Olivia Morlok, Westphal, Furnish and Johnson finished in the top four in the women’s event. For the men, Club Olympia took six of the top seven spots with event winner Beyer joined by Machavariani, Josh Pendleton, Ty Mayer, Todd Hundley, and Cavan Stilson.

In the open division, Beyer was first in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly, and took fourth in the 100 backstroke. Freel was first in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and second in the 200 breaststroke. Westphal took second in the 100 freestyle, 400 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Morlok was first in the 400 freestyle, second in the 200 freestyle and 400 IM and fifth in the 200 butterfly. Machavariani took first in the 400 IM, second in the 200 butterfly, third in the 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle.

Johnson finished second in the 100 buttefly and 200 butterfly, third in the 100 freestyle and eighth in the 200 breaststroke. Samuel claimed third in the 300 freestyle, fourth in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 breaststroke.

Dathan Wolf was sixth in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 100 butterfly and 400 freestyle. Annie Murer took eighth in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. Pratt Badve was seventh in the 200 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 backstroke. Todd Hundley was seventh in the 400 freestyle.

In the 11-12 age group, Furnish won the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 200 IM and took second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke. Zoie Chandelkar was second in the 200 IM, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle. She also placed third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 100 butterfly. Sanaa Kulkarni was fourth in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, third in the 100 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 backstroke and sixth in the 100 freestyle. Advika Badve claimed fourth in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 200 IM, sixth in the 100 butterfly, seventh in the 100 free and eighth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle. Nandini Kondhare was seventh in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle. Lovely Panda took sixth in the 200 freestyle, seventh in the 200 IM and eighth in the 100 backstroke.

Josh Pendleton, swimming a limited schedule, claimed first in the 100 free and second in the 100 butterly and 200 IM.

Shreyan Kulkarni led the 9 & 10 year olds with a first in the 200 free and 100 backstroke, second in the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle and placed third in the 50 freestyle. Aashka Shah was first in the 100 backstroke, second in the 50 backstroke, fifth in the 200 IM, seventh in the 50 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle.

Tony Machavariani commanded the 8U division, winning all eight of his events. Ivanka Chandelkar was first in the 100 butterfly; second in the 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 50 breaststroke and third in the 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle and and 100 breaststroke. Vivan Shah placed first in the 50 backstroke; second in the 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly and third in the 50 breaststroke.

Other Club Olympia athletes making strong showings over the weekend included Cassidy Furnish, Vidita Keskar, Judah Nickoll, Lily Pendleton, Rylan Perkins, Saanvi Vibhuti and Xavier Zhang.

Club Olympia’s last regular -season meet is Friday through July 11 at Forest Park in Noblesville. It will be the final tuneup before the Senior and Age Group State Championships and Central Zones Championships.
