COLUMBUS

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother

Susan B. Mack, 78, entered eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, with family by her side. She was born on October 28, 1940, in Elmhurst, Illinois, to the late Howard and Margaret Stapel. Susan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Raymond Mack, and sons, David and wife, Susie, of Illinois, and Jeffrey and wife, Kelli, of Georgia, grandchildren, Holt, Emma, Ryan Mack, Caitlyn and husband, Andy Wright, and numerous relatives.

Susan will be remembered for her gentle and loving spirit, cheerful smile, and countless acts of kindness. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1976 and remained active in the MTSU Alumni Association.

Susan was a lifelong learner and advocate for educating children and adults, especially those with illiteracy and reading disabilities. She also shared her Catholic faith by teaching Religious Education. Susan believed “good enough” was unacceptable and strived to improve each situation she encountered. Her philosophy to “never stop learning” directed her to become an outstanding architectural volunteer for the Columbus, Indiana, Visitors’ Center as a Tour Guide.

Susan served on committees of service and philanthropic organizations throughout her life, most recently P.E.O., Treasure Hunters Antique Club, and documenting a collection of stories from local senior citizens for the Bartholomew County Historical Society. Susan was very devoted to her faith and family and captured some of life’s most wonderful moments on film as an avid photographer.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2019, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, Indiana. A P.E.O.
