Work on State Road 252 project to continue

SHELBY COUNTY — An Indiana Department of Transportation contractor will resume work on the State Road 252 rehabilitation project in southwest Shelby County this weekend.

Milestone will set a culvert under State Road 252 east of County Road 500W, weather permitting. Excavation and installation requires closing the east-west highway to all traffic between 6 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Monday. It is the first of three weekend closures for culvert placement.

Beginning Monday, crews will excavate along State Road 252 shoulders west of the Flat Rock River and Lewis Creek bridges in advance of pavement widening operations. Motorists will be directed around the worksite by flaggers.

Pavement reconstruction on the highway between Auburn Hills subdivision and the bridges is scheduled after the shoulder work is done. Later in the year, crews will place new pavement sections on either side of County Road 600W.

So far, INDOT has widened or reconstructed about five miles of State Road 252 between Interstate 65 and Flat Rock, including new pavement, curbs and sidewalks through the town of Flat Rock. The state road is commonly used for northern Bartholomew County east-west commuters.
