Harold E. Byford, 77, of Scipio, entered into eternal life August 29, 2010, at 11:30 p.m. He died at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Mitch Coggin officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Reddington Cemetery.

Born June 11, 1933, Mr. Byford was the son of the late William and Marguerite Helt Byford. He married Carolyn Wayman Byford October 5, 1958. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. She survives.

Mr. Byford was a former engineering change analyst at Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1988 after 38 years of service. He enjoyed working part time as a driver for Charlie Thompson and Thompson Motors.

He attended Scipio Presbyterian Church and he was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 59, Rolling Hills Shrine Club, Murat Shriners of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed visiting his family in Granger, cars, going to car auctions and car shows.

Mr. Byford is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jeff) Hawes of Granger, IN; three grandchildren, Ashleigh (Mike) Schneider of Louisville, KY, Nick Hawes of Columbus, IN, and Brittany Cook of Granger, IN; a sister, Eileen (George) Swisher of Scipio; two brothers, Warren (Jane) Byford of Scipio and Jim (Carol) Byford of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Lois Wayman.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
