- Meridian federal courthouse targeted for closure Updated: Dec-11-13 4:05 pm
JACKSON, Mississippi - In a Dec. 11 story on the closing of the federal courtroom in Meridian, The Associated Press erroneously reported the closing was in a bill passed by the U.S. Senate and sent to President Barack Obama. The bill only addressed the judicial division boundaries in the Southern District of Mississippi and does not address the courtroom closure. The decision to close the Meridian courtroom was made by the Judicial Conference, a body independent of Congress.
JACKSON, Mississippi - Meridian's only federal courtroom - the site of historical civil rights cases more than four decades ago - will close under legislation passed by the U.S. Senate and sent to President Barack Obama.
