NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans songwriter, pianist and producer Allen Toussaint has been nominated for two Grammy awards and he is among several Louisiana artists who are up for one of the music industry's most coveted awards.
Nelson Mandela is being remembered as a towering giant, the sort of hero of whom President Barack Obama said, "few of us will share space with on this Earth again." It is hard to say enough about the courage, wisdom, sacrifice and persistence the former freedom fighter and later South Africa's president showed in paving the way for an end to apartheid and the birth of a new nation. Equally remarkable was his leadership in forgiving and reaching out to former adversaries without bitterness.
NEW YORK - Heroic in his deeds, graceful in his manner, sainted in his image, Nelson Mandela long served as both cause and muse in the entertainment community.
DETROIT - A plaque honoring Berry Gordy has been unveiled in the Motown Records founder's hometown of Detroit.
