Firefighters from five departments responded to a residential fire that broke out at 5:10 a.m. Saturday at 4954 Vance St., Columbus. Upon their arrival, firefighters observed smoke and fire coming from the single-story residence.

The Columbus Township Fire Department, in a news release, indicated about $60,000 in structure damage and another $20,000 in damage to contents.

Firefighters were able to prevent the house fire from spreading to a neighboring apartment, which sustained only minor heat damage. No one was injured.

Columbus Township, German Township and Harrison Township departments, challenged by low visibility and intense heat, were later joined by the Columbus Fire Department and Clifford Fire Department.
