'Paws for a Cause' raises thousands

Follow The Republic:

Perhaps never has taking Fido for a simple walk helped so many.

So it was at the recent, inaugural "Paws For a Cause" fundraiser at the Central Middle School track in Columbus.

The event, which allowed people to pay an entry fee of $15 to walk their pooch, generated $2,079 for the Bartholomew County Humane Society's new structure now underway south of Columbus.

Kindergarten students and fifth graders from Columbus Signature Academy - Fodrea Campus conceived the event, planned it, and even made homemade dog treats and dog-related cookbooks to boost money raised.
