Karen Zook has been working full-speed ahead, coordinating volunteers for the Mill Race Marathon.
She likes the spreadsheets that keep track of the more than 500 people who have stepped up to help, but she would love to fill her remaining open spots.
The Cummins Inc. employee, who is service development director-technology support, has been running the numbers almost daily, and she currently is about 125 volunteers short.
Information on volunteering
She was pleased recently when about 14 workers from Johnny Carino’s Country Italian restaurant in Columbus volunteered to work at a rest/recovery/refreshment station.
Sunright America in Columbus also is organizing a large contingent of volunteers to work marathon day, Zook said.
One of the newest opportunities is for volunteers willing to assist with parking and transportation-related duties. Organizers have been busy making plans for satellite parking areas and shuttle buses to limit the number of people who drive and park downtown.
