Teenager arrested in string of dumpster fires

Follow The Republic:

A 17-year-old is being held in the Bartholomew County Juvenile Detention Center on a preliminary charge of arson in connection with several dumpster fires at the Pence Apartments.

Officers arrested the teen Thursday after viewing surveillance video from the apartments, according to Sgt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Police said five dumpster fires were set between June 3 and July 27 near the apartments. Damage was limited to the dumpsters, Harris said, which will probably have to be replaced at a cost of about $2,000 each.
