COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff Mark Gorbett has filed written charges with the Bartholomew County Merit Board seeking the termination of 39-year Deputy Robert “Robbie” Amos.
An incident at a training exercise, where Amos violated procedures for handling a weapon, resulted in a simulation round striking Hartsville’s town marshal, the charges state. The incident is the latest in a series dating to 1993, according to a Sheriff’s Department media release.
While Amos did not say he will fight the charges, he said he will be prepared to defend himself when the Merit Board takes up the issue at a yet-to-be-determined date.
