Meet the candidate
Who: Karen Aud
What: Chief deputy in the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office
Office sought: County clerk
Family: Husband, the Rev. Dennis Aud, senior pastor of Westside Community Church; three grown children; four grandchildren.
Prior work experience: Administrative offices of Bartholomew Consolidated and South Harrison school corporations.
Aud said it has been her intention since being named chief deputy to seek the position of county clerk upon its vacancy. Aud, a Republican, filed a statement of organization of her campaign committee Wednesday.
“The experience I have had the last six years, I have been trained in the job. Tami, from the beginning, she has taken me to conferences, and I have attended meetings with her. I feel like I have a lot of experience in the job already,” Aud said.
She began her career with the county 11 years ago in the Community Corrections Department. Aud was chosen as chief deputy when Hines took office in 2008 and has served in that position since.
Her current responsibilities include assisting the clerk with overseeing all department operations, processing court records, performing various accounting duties and assisting the public as needed.
Aud said Hines has done an excellent job “thinking outside the box” in regards to the duties of the office, and Aud said she hopes to continue that trend.
