The Election Board seeks to find ways to improve the operation of each Election Day. The Election Board has always had the understanding that the clerk’s table (the table with the official poll book) would be located as the last table prior to the voting machines.
The letter to the editor indicates a change in this understanding. In fact, during Election Day, the Election Board received information that the clerk’s table had been moved in a particular precinct.
At that time, an Election Board representative traveled to the precinct and worked with the inspector to relocate the clerk’s table to the position as the last table prior to the voting machines.
Based upon Mr. Taylor’s information, the Election Board will review procedures with regard to the placement of the clerk’s table. Though the prior custom has been that the clerk’s table would be located at a point where the voter would sign in and then proceed immediately to the voting machine, the board will review the situation and if need be, issue a directive for the next election on this issue.
To the many voters who
waited patiently to vote, we thank you. We have learned from our poll workers and inspectors that our local voters carefully took their time to weigh the issues on the ballot, including the Public Question.
This fact and the heavy turnout added to the voting time experienced by some voters.
We also note that our voters were not alone, as voting lines in other parts of the country were much longer.
Don't settle for a preview.
