A Columbus man attempting to protect his property, as well as a woman being chased in his back yard, got a few bumps and bruises. But his efforts landed a Columbus man in jail.

Daniel Lacey, 28, 1217 Washington Ave., is facing one felony count of residential entry as well as two felony counts of forgery and possession of stolen property.

About 1:20 p.m. Saturday, the Columbus Police Department received a call of a domestic dispute at the 1200 block of Washington Avenue. The caller reported a neighborhood argument that had spilled into his backyard.

When a man reportedly began chasing a woman in the caller’s backyard, the caller intervened, opening his door and telling them to leave his yard.

The man, later identified as Lacey, reportedly turned toward the homeowner and, when the homeowner tried to close his door, kicked in the door and struck the homeowner.

The homeowner had minor injuries but refused medical attention, said Sgt. Matt Harris, spokesperson for the Columbus Police Department.

Police officers located Lacey later Saturday and found what is believed to be two stolen checks in his possession.
