Follow The Republic:

A man riding a bicycle on U.S. 31 was struck by a car and killed Tuesday afternoon, the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said.

The man's identity had not yet been determined, Sheriff Mike Carothers said at the scene.

The wreck was reported at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday in the 7800 block of North U.S. 31, just south of County Road 800N. The wreck occurred near Redding Woods, a small subdivision on the east side of U.S. 31.

Police said it appeared both the bicyclist and the car that struck him were northbound when the wreck occurred.
