A Brownstown teenager faces criminal charges after a search of his bedroom reportedly turned up drugs and a handgun.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a battery in Brownstown Wednesday confronted the 17-year-old and a friend on the street after noticing their clothes smelled like marijuana smoke.

A search of one of the teens’ homes uncovered packages of marijuana, controlled substances, baggies, scales, cash and a 9 mm handgun, deputies said in a report.

That teen faces charges of possession of a firearm, dealing marijuana and possession of marijuana and controlled substances.

The other teen was not charged.
