Burn ban issued for Jackson County

Follow The Republic:

A burn ban has been issued for Jackson County because ongoing drought conditions have created widespread fire hazards, according to Jackson County Commissioners.

Effective immediately, the following activities are prohibited in Jackson County:

  • Campfires and other recreational fires — unless enclosed in a fire ring that is at least 23 inches in diameter and 10 inches high or larger.
  • Open burning of any kind using conventional fuel such as wood or other combustible matter, with the exception of grills fueled by charcoal briquettes or propane.
  • The burning of debris such as timber or other vegetation.
  • Fireworks, except for those under allowed under state law, which are fireworks used between 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset from June 29 to July 9 and fireworks used between 10 a.m. and midnight on July 4.

Residents are encouraged to attend public displays of fireworks and to limit their use of personal fireworks to those that do not leave the ground until weather conditions improve.
